Sara believes that healing happens in relationship. She is committed to fostering a safe and brave space where clients can explore, evolve, and show up in their fullness. She supports client empowerment and autonomy and likes to give lots of options in therapy. Each person comes to therapy with unique experiences, ways of seeing the world, and goals, and Sara’s intention is to collaborate so that all these aspects of identity are honored throughout treatment.
Sara’s approach is trauma-informed. All behaviors, no matter how challenging for the individual, developed for good reason and were at one point necessary to keep them safe. She hopes to support folks in experiencing self compassion and understanding along the path towards learning new ways of being in relationship with self and others. She enjoys incorporating embodied approaches to access present moment experiences. This can be particularly powerful when traumatic experiences have created disconnection from the body. She comes from a strengths-based perspective which highlights resilience and strengths that already exist in individuals, family systems and communities as a place to build from and continue to support.
Sara holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, New Mexico and a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. Sara’s professional background includes working in community mental health and nonprofit settings. She has experience with and passion for supporting clients of all ages with a history of trauma, survivors of sexual assault, and young people in the foster care system.
When she’s not at work, some of her favorite activities include taking trips to the coast, cooking, reading in the sunshine, and camping.
