Tristan believes that the relationship that grows between therapist and client is one of the most important aspects of therapy. This relationship is defined by caring, understanding, and empathy. As a therapist, Tristan’s role is to provide a safe space for the client to be themselves, without fear of judgment or shame. He developed this view during his six plus years as a staff member at an intensive residential treatment program, where he worked with children who had suffered abuse and neglect. Tristan also learned about the therapeutic power of play and enjoyed helping the residents rediscover what it means to be a child.

Tristan enjoys working with children as well as adults, and his approach is client-centered and strengths-based. Tristan integrates a trauma-informed approach—meaning he understands the prevalence and impact of the many forms of trauma and focuses on strength and resilience as a way to move in a positive direction. Tristan has training in attachment theory, Collaborative Problem Solving, Mindfulness, and Play Therapy, and is currently receiving training to become a Registered Play Therapist. Tristan holds a Master’s degree in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Lewis & Clark College.

In his free time, Tristan enjoys playing both video games and board games, playing musical instruments such as the piano, and playing ultimate frisbee when the sun is out.
