Julie (she/her/hers) believes that building an authentic, trusting relationship is central to the change process for her clients. Julie’s approach to counseling is emotionally-focused and relationship-based and she draws from Child-Centered Play Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Positive Discipline in her work with clients. Julie believes that honoring the unique individual lived experiences of each client and recognizing the many spheres of influence on a person’s life (e.g. societal, historical) creates space for healing and change.
Julie is a Clinical Social Worker Associate (CSWA) with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from Seattle University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Education from Whitman College. Julie specializes in working with preschool and elementary-aged children and their parents/caregivers to improve family well-being. Julie worked as an elementary and middle-school teacher before becoming a counselor and spent the last 4 years as a counselor in PS – 5th-grade school. There she worked with children and families who were seeking support with behavioral concerns in children, parenting, grief and loss, and childhood anxiety and depression. Julie believes that all people are doing the best they can with the resources at their disposal and that her role is to help families identify the values and beliefs that they want to translate into their relationships.
In her free time, Julie is mostly chasing after her busy toddler, running with her dog, Shadow, and spending time with family and friends in the outdoors (especially mountains and beaches!). Other than her family and friends, her two greatest loves in life are chocolate and true-crime podcasts.
